Amazon online cyber monday deals

1) The big retailers, including Amazon.com, Best Buy, and Wal-Mart, are all likely to come out with a slew of Cyber Monday deals to cash in on shoppers who skipped this year's "aggressive" Black Friday pilgrimage.

Amazon has kicked off their Black Friday video game deals with a bang this morning!  The highlights include the Sony PSP handheld system for a low $99.99.  This is a savings of $30 and is a welcome discount compared to the other high priced options out there.  The gaming library is large and in fact is featured as part of their video game deals as well.  Sony PSP Black Friday video game deals include several games for under $12 including The Third Birthday, Ridge Racer, Kingdom Hearts, plus more...
On the Xbox 360 gaming deals front, Amazon has the Kinect Sensor with 3 games discounted to $99.99.  In addition the following Xbox 360 black friday game deals include Battlefield 3 for $39.99, L.A. Noire for $19.99, Dark Souls for $34.99, Red Dead Redemption Game of the Year for $29.99, Bioshock 2 for a low $9.99 and close to 100 more...  PS3 gamers also are treated to similar video game deals as their Xbox 360 brothers.  In addition though Amazon is featuring Black Friday discounts on Uncharted 2, Rage, Call of Duty Black Ops, NBA 2K12 and more.
Nintendo Wii Black Friday sales are available on Go Vacation, Just Dance Summer Party, Toy Story Mania ($9.99), plus more.  Nintendo DS/DSi and 3DS gamers are treated to under $15 discounts on Namco Museum, Call of Duty Modern Warfare, Super Monkey Ball 3D and Asphalt 3D.

Walmart put televisions on sale online ahead of Black Friday, allowing customers the chance to skip the in-store crowds.

Best Buy has its own online price cuts for TVs and other gadgets, as well as for cheaper goods.

A host of "$3.99 or less" videos included numerous 99-cent DVDs. On Friday morning, the $1 movies included "The Derby Stallion" with Zac Efron and "Charlie Wilson's War" with Tom Hanks. By Friday afternoon, the feel-good horse story was "sold out online," while you could still click "add to cart" for "Charlie Wilson's War."

Although industry marketing emphasizes online sales for Cyber Monday after Thanksgiving, the reality is that by Black Friday retailers are off to the races with their cyber discounting.

Actually, an industry survey conducted by BIGresearch found that 8 in 10 online retailers will have special promotions on Monday, but even more (9 in 10) were offering deals at some point during the Thanksgiving weekend.

This year Amazon.com will open its Cyber Monday Deals Store on Sunday, Nov. 27, adding new deals on popular products all week long at Amazon.com/cybermonday.
Amazon.com spokesperson Sally Fouts said the Kindle Fire, Full Color 7" Multi-touch Display, Wi-Fi

Pecan Pie recipe for Thanksgiving video

Pecan pie recipe video

Another recipe

Using whole pecans halves make a big difference in this pie. It is possible to use chopped pecans, but whole pecan halves make for a beautiful presentation and are nicer to bite into.

Ingredients:

Dough for 1 (9-inch) pie crust
3 eggs
1 cup dark corn syrup
2/3 cup dark brown sugar
5 Tbsp butter, melted and cooled to room temp.
1/2 Tbsp vanilla extract
2 cups pecan halves
Unsweetened whipped cream for serving (optional)

Instructions:

1. Drape the dough into the plate, leaving about an inch overhang. Decoratively crimp edges.

2. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

3. Beat eggs just until yolks and whites are well-mixed. Add syrup, brown sugar, room temperature melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix well. Gently stir in the pecans, taking care not to break them. Pour into pie shell.

4. Bake 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees. Bake 20-25 minutes more, or until just set. The interior should no longer be syrupy, and a knife inserted into center will come out clean.

5. Remove from oven and let cool. Serve slightly warm, topped with unsweetened whipped cream if desired. Serves 6.

Sweet Potato Pie & 4 Cheese Macaroni

Sweet Potato PieThanksgiving wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without sweet potato pie and baked macaroni and cheese. Turkey is important of course but by it’s lonesome it’s boring and dry. The holidays are stressful enough so here are two simple recipes to go by…
Things you’ll need:
Sweet Potato Pie:
  • 3 sweet potatoes
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 3/4 cup evaporated milk
  • 2 (9 inch) unbaked 9 inch pie crusts
  • Instructions:
  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add sweet potatoes and cook until tender but still firm, about 30 minutes. Drain, cool, peel and mash. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine sweet potatoes, butter, sugar, vanilla and nutmeg. In a small bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk and blend into the sweet potato mixture.
  3. Pour into pie shells and bake in preheated oven for 60 minutes, or until done.

4 Cheese Macaroni
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 (16 ounce) package elbow macaroni
  • 9 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup shredded Muenster cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups half-and-half
  • 8 ounces cubed processed cheese food
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Instructions:
  1. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add the oil and the pasta and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente; drain well and return to cooking pot.
  2. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt 8 tablespoons butter; stir into the macaroni.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the Muenster cheese, mild and sharp Cheddar cheeses, and Monterey Jack cheese; mix well.
  4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  5. Add the half and half, 1 1/2 cups of cheese mixture, cubed processed cheese food, and eggs to macaroni; mix together and season with salt and pepper. Transfer to a lightly greased deep 2 1/2 quart casserole dish. Sprinkle with the remaining 1/2 cup of cheese mixture and 1 tablespoon of butter.
  6. Bake in preheated oven for 35 minutes or until hot and bubbling around the edges; serve.

Super Committee Failure - Stock prices Tumbling

Failure is an option, and one the Super Committee on debt reduction looks increasingly likely to end up with.  A last-ditch meeting of lawmakers ended Monday afternoon with no smiles, no comments, but some vivid body language. Even a visit to the White House by Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., co-chairwoman of the panel of 12 came and went without comment.  With Republican sources telling Fox News it's just a matter of timing an announcement to the market close, for some, the latest comes as no surprise.
Wall Street
Stock prices are tumbling around the world as investors reacted to the apparent failure of the congressional "super committee" tasked with cutting the federal budget deficit.
Two hours into the U.S. trading day, the Dow Jones industrial average was at a five-week low of 11,491.04, down 305.12 points, or  2.6%. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index was down 2.3% on the heels of its worst week in two months.
The "super committee" is expected to announce later Monday that it failed to come up with $1.2 trillion in cuts to the deficit. Committee members are reportedly still negotiating, but if those last-minute talks prove fruitless, the lack of a deal will trigger automatic cuts to domestic programs as well as defense spending.
For the financial markets, a failure by the committee would underscore an inability of leaders in Washington to act decisively.
In Europe, a number of stock markets sank more than 3% on the U.S. political gridlock as well as a warning by Moody's that it may downgrade French government bonds.
Also depressing share prices around the world were pessimistic comments by German and Chinese officials about their economies.

The Republican and Democratic leaders of a 12-member congressional "super committee" are set to declare defeat in a joint statement to be released after three months of talks failed to bridge deep divides over taxes and spending. After a year of bruising budget battles, it is another sign that lawmakers are too entrenched to compromise on the tax increases and benefit cuts that budget experts say are needed to set the country's finances on a stable path.
For all the talk about "failure," the super-committee actually succeeded—it avoided doing more damage to the economy than has been done already. The real failure is the process that created it, and our government's misguided focus on austerity since Republicans won the elections in 2010.

Stop Online Piracy Act - SOPA

Sponsors of the controversial U.S. Stop Online Piracy Act defended the legislation Wednesday, saying the proposal is needed to shut down websites trafficking in billions of dollars worth of online piracy.

Google, Twitter and eBay say controversial Stop Online Piracy Act would give US authorities too much power over websites
Internet giants went on the attack on Wednesday, claiming legislation aimed at tackling online piracy would create an "internet blacklist bill" that would encourage censorship, kill jobs and give US authorities unrivalled powers over the world's websites.

Opposition to the bill, called SOPA, is fueled by the desire of giant Internet companies to protect their profit margins, said Representative Melvin Watt, a North Carolina Democrat and co-sponsor of the legislation. Opposition to the bill is "really about the bottom line" of Internet companies, Watt said during a U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee hearing on the bill.
Some opponents' claims that SOPA will kill the Internet or result in widespread censorship of the Web are exaggerations, Watt said. "It is beyond troubling to hear the hyperbolic charges that this bill will open the floodgate to government censorship," he said. "I start from the premise that Internet freedom does not and cannot mean Internet lawlessness."

The legislation, which would enlist online advertising networks, payment processors, Internet service providers and search engines in copyright enforcement, is needed, said Representative Lamar Smith, a Texas Republican and main sponsor of SOPA. Current copyright laws don't adequately protect U.S. companies against foreign sites offering infringing and counterfeit products, he said.
The act aims to tackle online piracy by giving the US Justice Department new powers to go after websites, both domestically and abroad, that host disputed copyright material. The act would allow the US to effectively pull the plug on websites and go after companies that support them technically or through payment systems. A vote on the bill could come as early as next month.

Maria Pallante, register of copyrights, told the committee: "As we all know, the internet harbours a category of bad faith actors whose very business models consist of infringing copyright in American books, software, movies, and music with impunity."
She said these "rogue" sites were the "dark side of the internet", and that while American authors, publishers, and producers had been asked to invest in online commerce, "in critical circumstances we have left them to compete with thieves."

"Everybody uses the internet every day, these days. Everyone realises how important freedom is online. This isn't just for geeks any more," he said.
"The worst part of this bill is that the vast majority of the damage will be invisible – it will be all the companies that never start because this bill has effectively killed them."

Heavy D Rap Star Dead at 44

The 44-year old performer, whose real name is Dwight Arrington Myers, was rushed to the hospital around noon.
He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 1 p.m.

Beverly Hills Police say they received a 911 call from Myers Beverly Hills home on North Maple Drive around 11:25 a.m. to report an male in distress.
When officers arrived, they found Myers conscious, communicative, but having difficulty breathing.
Paramedics took Myers to Cedars Sinai Medical Center, where he ultimately died.
Investigators say Meyers was returning home from shopping.
He experienced difficulty breathing while walking into his condominium building.
He was being assisted up to his apartment by building personnel when he collapsed in an exterior hallway.
There are no obvious signs of foul play, and at this time his death is believed to be medically related. His cause of death will be determined by the LA Co. Coroner's Office.
In honor of Heavy D, take a look back at some of the artist's most memorable turns on the big screen.

"Life"
It's only fitting that one of Heavy D's earliest screen appearances has a strong link to his final bow: he starred in the 1999 comedy "Life" opposite future "Tower Heist" co-star Eddie Murphy. The movie was also produced by "Heist" producer Brian Grazer. D starred in "Life" alongside a who's who of comedians, including Murphy, Martin Lawrence, Anthony Anderson and Bernie Mac.
"The Cider House Rules"
Heavy's personality and presence lent itself easily to comedy, but he was no stranger to award-winning fare either: he played Peaches in "The Cider House Rules," the 1999 Oscar contender about a young man's connection to an orphanage during World War II.
"Boston Public"
Heavy D had an acting presence on the small screen as well as the big one. He had a recurring role on Fox's high school drama "Boston Public" as Bob "Big Boy" Lick, the school's compassionate guidance counselor. D appeared in 13 episodes of the TV series from 2000 through 2003.
"Hitch"
OK, OK, so Mr. D wasn't actually in this comedy, but "Now That We Found Love," provided the musical tapestry upon which Will Smith and Kevin James boogied in the final wedding scene. Try as we might, we can't hate "Hitch." And we will always dig early '90s rap.
"Tower Heist"
His final appearance was brief, but memorable: Heavy D had a cameo appearance in this past weekend's "Tower Heist" as a courthouse guard. Nothing too fancy, but he was surrounded by fantastic actors and previous collaborators in his final cinematic effort.

Justin Bieber baby could land accuser in jail

The young woman who claims Justin Bieber impregnated her during a Staples Center tryst may rue the day she dished about the quickie and its consequences.
That’s because the alleged hookup could get Mariah Yeater, 20, in legal trouble for statutory rape if her tale proves to be true, The Associated Press reported.
Bieber was still a tender 16-year-old — technically a minor under California law — when he and Yeater, then newly 19, allegedly got busy in an arena bathroom after one of his shows last October.
It is against California law for an adult to have sex with anyone under 18. If the offender is no more than three years older than the victim — as would be the case if Yeater’s claim were true — it would trigger a misdemeanor count punishable by up to a year in jail.
Yeater filed a paternity suit against Bieber in San Diego Superior Court, asking for a paternity test and, if Bieber is the daddy, financial support for the child.
But no criminal complaint has been made regarding the possible statutory rape.
Los Angeles police Cmdr. Andrew Smith told the wire service the department could launch an investigation.
“If it’s brought to our attention, of course we’ll look into it,” the AP reported.
Yeater came forward with claims that the “Baby” singer was the father of her 3-month-old son, Tristyn Anthony Markhouse Yeater, earlier this week — sparking a media frenzy over the alleged scandal in Bieberland.
Bieber’s spokesman, Matthew Hiltzik, denied the allegation, calling it “malicious, defamatory and demonstrably false.”
“We will vigorously pursue all available legal remedies to defend and protect Justin against these allegations,” his statement, made previously to the Daily News, added.
Yeater says the baby-faced singer is the only one who could possibly be the father of her boy because “there were no other possible men she had sex with at that time,” according to the AP.
As to the possible legal wrinkle that could come back to bite her, her lawyer, Matthew Pare, had this to say:
“The issue of statutory rape, even if she’s guilty, hypothetically, that has no bearing on the duties to provide child support. It's a totally separate issue.”
He added: "The most important thing for our client is letting her baby know who his father is.”

Google’s do a barrel roll trick - tilt and askew

Type the phrase into Google's search box and the screen will perform a 360-degree spin.
The same effect can be achieved by entering “Z or R twice” into the search bar.
It is the latest such gimmick to appear on Google, following a similar amusement in which users could adjust the angle of the screen by entering the word “tilt” as a search term.
The search engine has also developed a reputation for such eccentricities through its “Google doodles”, which regularly spruce up its home page.
The barrel roll game does not seem to function on all browsers but appears to work best using Firefox and Chrome.
The xo-called Easter egg is a nod to Star Fox 64, the 1997 Nintendo game, in which a space pilot rabbit called Peppy tells character Fox McCloud to “do a barrel roll”.
The feat could be accomplished by pressing the “Z” or “R” buttons twice on the console’s handset.
“Today’s fun query, ‘do a barrel roll’, was created by a Google software engineer with the primary goal of entertaining users — while showcasing the power of CSS3, a presentation feature of modern browsers,” a Google spokesperson said.
“The ‘do a barrel roll’ query, which causes the search page to spin, will remain in place for a while.”

Channing Askew dies after trying to cut pacemaker out of his chest

A 47-year-old man has died after trying to cut out his own heart pacemaker from his chest.
Channing Askew, who lived in Chicago, told friends he was experiencing chest pains and asked for an ambulance was called.
While waiting for an ambulance he attempted to gouge out the device using a screwdriver or knife
When paramedics arrived at the house Askew was already unconscious.
As they attempted to revive him they noticed the stab wound and called police.
Doctors later said the single stab wound around the area where the medical device had been fitted was self inflicted.

Askew could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital.
Police were called to the group home in the Uptown district of Chicago where Askew lived amid fears he had been attacked.
