WHO agency warns cellphone use Possibly Carcinogenic

WHO agency warns cellphone use Possibly Carcinogenic

The world’s leading authority on cancer research has declared the radiofrequency electromagnetic fields emitted by devices such as cellphones are possibly carcinogenic, a major step that is raising new questions about cellphone safety.
The International Agency for Research on Cancer, which is part of the World Health Organization, made the announcement on Tuesday after 31 leading experts from 14 countries met in France to review the existing evidence.
The panel concluded that radiofrequency electromagnetic fields are possibly carcinogenic “based on an increased risk for glioma, a malignant type of brain cancer, associated with wireless phone use.” Numerous other substances are considered “possibly carcinogenic,” including gasoline, some pesticides and occupational exposure from dry cleaning and firefighting.
Although there are many sources of radiofrequency electromagnetic fields, such as near transmitters, cellphones are the highest source of exposure for most people because they are held directly to the head, allowing the body to absorb radiation.
But the group is also warning consumers not to panic because there is not enough scientific evidence to say that cellphones pose a serious health risk.
“The meeting didn’t determine that cellphones cause cancer. It didn’t determine that they probably cause cancer,” Jack Siemiatycki, Guzzo chair in environment and cancer at the University of Montreal and member of the IARC panel, said in an interview from France. “It determined they possibly cause cancer.”
The panel and other leading experts are calling for more research to help determine the nature of the potential risks.
It’s an important undertaking, as the popularity of cellphones has skyrocketed over the past decade. Many researchers are particularly worried about the effects of exposure on children, whose brains are still developing and who are more vulnerable to potential health threats than adults are.
“The evidence is mounting, but there’s still some uncertainty, which we are addressing through further studies,” said Daniel Krewski, director of the McLaughlin Centre for Population Health Risk Assessment at the University of Ottawa.
As fears emerged in recent years about a possible connection between cellphones and cancer, Canada’s telecommunications industry has maintained that they are safe.
On Tuesday afternoon, Bernard Lord, president of the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association, arrived late from a flight to give a speech at the Canadian Telecom Summit when he found himself faced with media asking for a response to the IARC report.
“None of the studies have been able to conclude that there was a direct link,” he said in an interview. “There’s more to be learned, and this opens up the opportunity for more research, which we fully support.”
Mr. Lord added that product safety standards are set by the government and that cellphone companies “want to make sure that their products are safe.”
“I will continue to use my mobile device every day,” Mr. Lord said.
Erin Budd, on the other hand, isn’t taking chances. The Toronto mother has a cellphone, but uses it only in hands-free mode and makes sure to keep it away from her body at all times.
“Cigarettes, years ago, no one believed it was bad for your health,” she said. “It’s best to err on the side of caution.”
Health Canada says there is no convincing evidence that cellphones are a serious risk to health.
James McNamee, a research scientist with the Consumer and Clinical Radiation Protection Bureau at Health Canada and specialist in electromagnetics, who was also at the meeting, said the department will monitor the situation as new evidence emerges, but that consumers should not be too concerned.
“There could be some risk here and this needs to be watched carefully,” he said in a telephone interview from France. “I think this is far from being an alarm-bell situation.”
Health Canada advises consumers who are worried about the potential risks to use cellphones in hands-free mode and limit the length of calls. Other experts advise texting instead of calling.

Friends With Benefits Staring Mila kunis and Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis are FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS
in a romantic comedy about two friends who eventually
discover that getting physical leads to complications.
Friends With Benefits remains one of my most anticipated films coming out this summer, and as happens with seemingly any comedy, I'm starting to worry about the trailers giving away all the best jokes. I hate the feeling of sitting in a movie theater and hearing an audience laugh at a particularly good line, knowing full well they've seen it 100 times in the trailer and are only laughing because they think they should. From the looks of it Friends With Benefits will be funny enough that there's plenty more coming that the trailer hasn't revealed, but a few more new, great jokes pop up now in the international trailer.

I'm torn, because it's a great trailer showing off a lot of really funny moments, but again, that's four or five more jokes that won't be fresh once you see the movie. I don't think director Will Gluck is as committed to the improvisational comedy style as Bridesmaids director Paul Feig, but I'm hoping maybe the trailer are taking a note from that film, showing off a bunch of alternate jokes that don't actually appear in the movie. Even so, this rom-com starring Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake is still high on my list of things I'm anticipating will make me happy this summer. Check out the trailer below, and look for it in US theaters on July 22.

Sean Kingston Critically Injured In Jet Ski Accident
Kingston is believed to be in a critical condition and is being treated in the Ryder Trauma Center. He has now moved from the trauma unit to the ICU, his rep said in a recent statement.
Kisean Anderson better known by his stage name, Sean Kingston, the 21 year old year old Jamaican-American artist was involved in a jet skiing accident in Miami, Florida. Kingston and a female passenger were severely injured when their jet ski struck the bridge connecting Palm Island with the MacArthur Causeway at approximately 6 p.m.
The 21-year-old singer was driving the watercraft that apparently crashed when it went under a small bridge at about 6 p.m., CNN reported. A female passenger on board was also injured.

Kingston was discovered through MySpace by Tommy Rotem at Beluga Heights, and signed to the label in a partnership deal with Sony. Kingston shot to fame in 2007 when his debut song "Beautiful Girls" became a No. 1 hit in the United States.
Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman Jorge Pino says both Kingston and his female passenger were hospitalized early Monday at Ryder Trauma Center, but he didn't know their conditions, however a representative for his label Epic Records confirmed early Monday that Kingston "was now stabilized." What is Memorial Day

What is Memorial Day

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service. There are many stories as to its actual beginnings, with over two dozen cities and towns laying claim to being the birthplace of Memorial Day. There is also evidence that organized women's groups in the South were decorating graves before the end of the Civil War: a hymn published in 1867, "Kneel Where Our Loves are Sleeping" by Nella L. Sweet carried the dedication "To The Ladies of the South who are Decorating the Graves of the Confederate Dead" (Source: Duke University's Historic American Sheet Music, 1850-1920). While Waterloo N.Y. was officially declared the birthplace of Memorial Day by President Lyndon Johnson in May 1966, it's difficult to prove conclusively the origins of the day. It is more likely that it had many separate beginnings; each of those towns and every planned or spontaneous gathering of people to honor the war dead in the 1860's tapped into the general human need to honor our dead, each contributed honorably to the growing movement that culminated in Gen Logan giving his official proclamation in 1868. It is not important who was the very first, what is important is that Memorial Day was established. Memorial Day is not about division. It is about reconciliation; it is about coming together to honor those who gave their all.
Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on 5 May 1868 by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, in his General Order No. 11, and was first observed on 30 May 1868, when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. The first state to officially recognize the holiday was New York in 1873. By 1890 it was recognized by all of the northern states. The South refused to acknowledge the day, honoring their dead on separate days until after World War I (when the holiday changed from honoring just those who died fighting in the Civil War to honoring Americans who died fighting in any war). It is now celebrated in almost every State on the last Monday in May (passed by Congress with the National Holiday Act of 1971 (P.L. 90 - 363) to ensure a three day weekend for Federal holidays), though several southern states have an additional separate day for honoring the Confederate war dead: January 19 in Texas, April 26 in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi; May 10 in South Carolina; and June 3 (Jefferson Davis' birthday) in Louisiana and Tennessee.

Oprah's Last Show

Oprah’s Last Show   In case you haven’t heard, Oprah Winfreys daytime show is coming to a close after 25 years this Wednesday and the talk show queen is turning to Twitter to share her thoughts on closing this chapter of her life.

On Friday, the talk show queen appeared quite serene as she shared with her 5.9 million-plus followers: “A lot of ‘lasts’ today. I’m really feeling like it’s the end. Still all sweet, no bitter.”

And, even though the show is ending, Oprah is still working around the clock.  On Sunday, she tweeted: “Been workin’ on final show with Sheri all day.Don’t miss next 3 days for sure.”  Sheri Salata is Oprah’s executive producer.

Last night, Oprah participated in a live tweet to promote her “Behind the Scenes” show.  One tweet in particular demonstrated Oprah’s desperate need for some rest and relaxation.
“what’s your favorite thing to do when you have free time? I know you don’t have much :) ,” asked @Trinetta.
An exasperated Oprah replied: “It’s been so long since I had free time. stopped at Starbucks today? Had a moment. Knowing I had a moment.”

She does sound exhausted, doesn’t she?  Well, the good news for Oprah is that after Wednesday she’ll have that moment!

After giving her email address (oprah@oprah.com) to the audience and viewers at home with a promise that all responses would in fact come directly from her, she ended with a simple message.
"I won't say goodbye, I'll just say until we meet again," Oprah said, in tears. "To God be the glory."
The show credits rolled onthe oprah show finale as she hugged longtime boyfriend Stedman Graham and shook hands with members of the audience, as well as went backstage to greet the hundreds of workers at "The Oprah Winfrey Show", many in tears as they hugged her. The show's last shot was Oprah picking up one of her beloved dogs, exclaiming, "We did it!"

Casey Anthony Trial Defense Claims Caylee Drowned Pool

Casey Anthony Trial Defense Claims Caylee Drowned  Pool

Casey Anthony's defense team claimed today that Caylee Anthony drowned in the family's swimming pool on June 16, 2008, weeks before she was reported missing.
"How in the world can a mother wait 30 days before ever reporting her child missing, that's insane, that's bizarre..the answer is actually relatively simple. She never was missing. Caylee Anthony died on June 16, 2008 when she drowned in her family's swimming pool," said Jose Baez, Anthony's defense attorney.
Anthony, 25, wept as defense attorney Baez described Anthony and her family.
Baez also claimed that Casey Anthony's father, George Anthony, found the body and indicated that he helped dispose of the body.
"What makes this case unique…is the family that it happened to. You will hear stories about a family that is incredibly dysfunctional, you will hear about ugly things, secret things, things that people don't speak about," Baez said.
Anthony's defense team alleges that she was sexually abused by her father and brother and hid her daughter's death like she hid the secret of her alleged sexual abuse.
"On June 16, 2008, after Caylee died, casey did what she's been doing all her life…hiding her pain, going into that dark corner and pretending that she does not live in the situation that she's living in... it all began when Casey was 8 years old and her father came into her room and began to touch her inappropriately and it escalated," Baez said.
The defense lawyer said that Casey Anthony's actions were affected by the abuse she suffered as a child.
"Casey Anthony was raised to lie," Baez said. He added, "Sex abuse does things to us, it changes you."
The attorney said, "She's not guilty of murder... This is not a murder case. This is a sad, tragic accident that snowballed out of control."
Casey Anthony began crying almost from the first moments of her murder trial today as the prosecutor laid out a string of elaborate lies that she allegedly used to avoid her parents for a month and pretend that her 2-year-old daughter Caylee was still alive.
The opening statements began in an Orlando courtroom today, nearly three years after Caylee was reported missing in the summer of 2008. Anthony, 25, faces a battery of charges including first degree murder, aggravated manslaughter of a child, aggravated child abuse and providing false information to law enforcement.
Prosecutor Linda Drane-Burdick opened the case by going through each of the 31 days that Caylee was missing, although police and Anthony's parents were unaware of the girl's disappearance.

Bath Salt Abuse

 Bath Salt Abuse
A substance that has unexpectedly appeared on the shelves at tobacco shops and drive-thrus has transformed into a trendy -- and legal -- way to get high.
But Ohio lawmakers are attempting to join at least 10 other states in banning the substance marketed as a "bath salt." The element has a different chemical composition than the aromatic salts meant to be poured into the tub.
Bath salts are sold for up to $80 each in plastic bags the size of tea bags and in canisters the size of a quarter with a simple warning -- "Not for consumption."
"You could go to Bath and Body Works and get a lot of bath salts for $78. Right away, it makes you think something isn't right here," said Heath Jolliff, associate medical director for the Central Ohio Poison Center. "People are using this for its stimulant effects."
In most cases, bath salts contain mephedrone, a synthetic derivative of the natural amphetamine cathinone, which provides effects similar to those of cocaine, he said. Some bath salts have used other derivatives as well.
Bills to ban six derivatives of cathinone were proposed in both chambers of the Ohio legislature. The House version of the bill was introduced to the Health and Aging committee this month, but the Senate version likely won't be tackled until the state budget is complete.
"I think that the marketing is designed for a group of people that understand that it's a drug. For instance, somebody like me who may have walked into one of these stores may think it's a wonderful present for Mother's Day, not knowing it's quite different," said state Sen. Eric Kearney, D-Cincinnati, who sponsored the Senate bill that seeks to ban bath salts. "People who are familiar with the drug culture would know."

Powerful effects

Emergency room patients who have taken bath salts have shown high heart rates, hallucinations, agitation and prolonged paranoia, Jolliff said.
"I think this drug is going to burn itself out because it's rare to see anything on the Internet of positive effects from this," he said. "Every case we're seeing is negative effects."
Mansfield law enforcement officials called a news conference this week to educate people about the dangers of bath salts, which have been labeled a local epidemic.
Earlier this year, the methamphetamine unit of the state Bureau of Criminal Investigations was called to Delaware County to investigate a mobile meth lab, but the driver actually was cutting bath salts to be sold out of his trunk, said Special Agent Scott Duff, who runs the meth unit for BCI.
Bath salts users snort, inject or ingest the powder to achieve the high, Jolliff said.
Hospitals try to counteract the violent outbursts by rehydrating patients, administering relaxants and, in some cases, large doses of sedatives, Jolliff said. Because different bath salts use varying derivatives of cathinone, the immediate reaction is often unpredictable, he said. Some doctors have reported that some people who have taken bath salts experience paranoia for weeks after the initial dose, though no evidence of permanent damage has surfaced, Jolliff said.
Synthetic chemicals in bath salts do not show up on common drug screens, and the new drug was a major topic during an American College of Medical Toxicology conference in Washington, D.C., Jolliff said.

Rise in use

Little research has been conducted on bath salts, but Jolliff said he expects that to change as calls to poison centers continue to increase.
The American Association of Poison Control Centers began tracking bath salts in mid-2010 and recorded 302 cases nationwide that year. That has spiked to 2,360 cases so far in 2011.
Poison centers in Columbus, Cincinnati and Cleveland reported four cases in 2010, but that has jumped to 170 cases to date in 2011. The Columbus poison center, which covers much of central Ohio, has had 74 cases in 2011, but saw only one in 2010.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last week published one of the first studies of emergency room visits by bath-salt users.
The report studied 35 people who had been admitted to a Michigan hospital after using bath salts as a drug and concluded that nearly half of the patients had a history of serious mental illness.
Although bath salts have appeared in central Ohio stores, research by the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services indicates they are concentrated in the Cleveland and Dayton areas, said Brad DeCamp, assistant chief in the department's division of treatment and recovery services.
But Kearney said law enforcement that he has spoken to believe the problem could grow in southern Ohio and are frustrated by a lack of regulation.
"Until we get some teeth, our abilities are pretty limited," Duff said. "It's kind of unfortunate that this stuff can continue to be marketed as bath salts, knowing full well that the people marketing this stuff and peddling this stuff know what folks, mainly kids, are doing with this stuff."
Bath salts skate around existing laws by including a warning that they are not for consumption, according to the CDC study.
"Classes of designer drugs like 'bath salts' are intended to have pharmacological effects similar to controlled substances but to be chemically distinct from them, thus avoiding legal control," according to the CDC study.
Duff compared bath salts to synthetic marijuana, which was legally sold as incense before it was banned.
"Obviously, people know what they're buying," Jolliff said. "I don't think too many people are buying this accidentally."

PSN Down Again May 16

PSN Down Again May 16The PSN gamers are waiting once again but what does the PlayStation Network down on May 16 actually mean? Well since the PSN network has over 70 million users it actually caused the PlayStation Network to go down since the server could not handle the load all at once. This is kind of ironic since the avid PSN users wanted the Playstation network back so bad they actually caused it to go down on May 16.
This is mind boggling that the PSN fans have so many users it can actually affect several companies or people so you better keep them happy as far as I’m concerned. It is too bad that all of these Playstation users can’t come up with a way to save this country from the big banks that actually caused the United States to be in depression again. Although I’m certain this younger generation is content with conquering Blackops or COD which would have a lot of government officials happy.

Donald Trump says he won’t run for President

So it turns out that Donald Trump got the joke after all. Or maybe he was the one who put one over on everyone else.Either way, the reality TV star and real estate mogul has concluded that the time has come to end it.
“After considerable deliberation and reflection, I have decided not to pursue the office of the presidency,” Trump announced in a statement on Monday. But, he added: “I maintain the strong conviction that if I were to run, I would be able to win the primary and, ultimately, the general election.”
No one ever knew for sure whether Trump’s flirtation with a 2012 bid was more serious than his earlier ones had been in 1988 and 2000, or whether it was simply his latest attention-getting, ratings-boosting stunt.
Had he run for the Republican nomination, it would have been the most ambitious brand extension effort yet for a man who has slapped his name on, among other things, luxury hotels, country clubs, men’s clothing, bottled water, chocolate and the Miss Universe Pageant.
Trump originally said he would not reveal his decision until this Sunday’s season finale of his NBC show, “Celebrity Apprentice.” But another deadline may have overridden his showman’s impulses: Monday was the day that NBC, which has been struggling in the ratings, was scheduled to present its fall schedule to advertisers in New York.
Network executives reportedly had been pressuring Trump, whose show is one of the network’s most popular, to make his intentions clear. When he appeared onstage for what is known as “upfront” presentation, advertisers cheered.
Trump’s announcement came two days after former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee bowed out of next year’s race, during his own television show on Fox News Channel. Trump made a cameo on Huckabee’s show, which, in retrospect, may have been a clue.

Harold Camping prediction World to end

Harold Camping prediction World to end

You may have seen the signs. No, I don’t mean locusts or plagues, I mean actual signs – billboards, placards, etc., on bus kiosks and subway cars through New York that advertise May 21 as the end of the world and Judgment Day.
Robert Fitzpatrick, a 60-year-old Staten Island man, has spent his life savings of $140,000, to put up these signs. He has written and self-published a book “The Doomsday Code”, which details how the Bible is letting us know the world is going to end and why. The book is available on Amazon.com

A small but devoted band of followers has subscribed to the May 21 date. A major voice in this crowd is Harold Camping, founder of Family Radio Worldwide. He’s that elderly gentlemen who does a TV show in his basement. He sits in a chair, with some 1970s paneling on the wall, holding a big Bible and talking in a low, monotone voice. I keep expecting his wife to shout from upstairs “Harold! Are you still doing that show? I need you to go to the store for me!”
Camping predicted the May 21 date, although he had also predicted a previous end in 1994. I’m pretty sure there were earthquakes, floods and terrible deeds going on at that time, too. Obviously, that end did not occur and Camping acknowledges now that he had a mathematical error. I can hear his wife now, “Harold! Are you still doing that show? I need my calculator back!”

ASHTON KUTCHER REPLACE CHARLIE SHEEN

Ashton Kutcher will replace Charlie Sheen on the hit sitcom "Two And A Half Men." CBS and Warner Bros. Television made the announcement today that he will join the cast of the hit comedy series. Kutcher stated, "I can't wait to get to work with this ridiculously talented 2.5 team and I believe we can fill the stage with laughter that will echo in viewers' homes," said Kutcher. "I can't replace Charlie Sheen but I'm going to work my ass off to entertain the hell out of people!" Aston was offeerd the deal after Hugh Grant declined the offer. There has been no dollar amount released on the contract that was offered but word it Ashton will be getting some big money.
So with all of this Ashton Kutcher news did you think that the Charlie Sheen twitter would be blowing up with profane tweets and mean comments? Surprisingly if you will check out Sheen’s twitter you will see that he hasn’t said anything about it – yet. Do you think he is waiting for something? Maybe he has flipped over a new leaf?As many know Ashton Kutcher is going to be on Two and a Half Men now. No he is not going to be playing Charlie Harper. I am glad of that because I really hate it when they replace actors and put them in the same role, bleh! Apparently Ashton Kutcher is going to be playing another man that comes into the house.

Latest Mississippi Flooding News

Mississippi River Flooding Reaching Historic Levels

After weeks of intense rainfall, the water level is breaking records across Mississippi. In Natchez, Miss., the water now stands at 58.3 feet, shattering the 1937 watermark of 53.04 feet. And the National Weather Service says that the flooding is just getting started.
While residents scramble to reach higher ground, the rest of the country has focused on the economic and environmental impacts of this last round of severe weather, which comes in the wake the devastating tornadoes that swept the Southeast two weeks ago.
The water is flooding some of the most fertile areas in the country, so damages to agriculture alone could easily top $2 billion, according to estimates by economist John Michael Riley, a professor in the department of agricultural economics at Mississippi State University.
“Crop lost estimates are definitely around $800 million for Mississippi alone,” Riley said. To that $800 million, Riley added another $500 million in estimated losses in Arkansas, and several hundred million more caused by flooding in
Louisiana, Missouri and farmland north of Memphis in Tennessee.
But agricultural losses could just be the tip of the iceberg.
“Homes and business are being damaged, and there are all the industries that feed into agriculture. There are going to be far reaching losses,” Riley said. “So $2 billion is probably just a starting point in terms of overall, everything put together.”
In one of the worst cases of flooding since the Great Depression, the bulging, swollen Mississippi River is overflowing in record proportions, blanketing thousands of square miles across Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi, negatively impacting the environment, and causing billions of dollars in damage.

River casinos in Mississippi are also being closed, which could cost the state $12 million a month in state and local tax revenue, according to Jon Moen, chair of the economics department at the University of Mississippi.

While it is too early to estimate the economic impact of structural losses, Sally Williams from the Mississippi Development Authority said the overall cost will depend heavily on whether the levees ultimately hold.
“It totally depends on what areas might be affected,” Williams said. “The levees could breach and we could have more flooding as a result of that, but the levees haven’t been breached yet.” Even with the majority of the levees intact, about 1,300 homes in Memphis were affected, and between 600-800 homes in Mississippi may be at risk, said Moen.
The total damages of the Mississippi flood of 1927, known simply as the “Great Flood”, cost a total of $230 million -- the equivalent of $2.8 billion today -- although there was far less infrastructure and agriculture in place at the time.
In anticipation of increased flooding, health officials are quick to emphasize the obvious, but important, point: Stay away from the water for environmental reasons.

The river is slowly spreading across millions of acres of farmlands that contain pesticides, fertilizers and other chemicals. The sheer amount of water is diluting the concentration of these toxic chemicals, but the Mississippi
State Department of Health still note that the water could carry disease, especially tetanus.
Increased levels of E. coli are also of concern, because the bacteria can be an indicator for harmful pathogens that may cause illness. The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation is monitoring the levels weekly. So far, the agency has found that the state’s lakes do not have dangerously elevated concentrations of E. coli, except in Cypress Creek, which has a history of pollution.

Pakistanis Islamists cry 'Death to America' burn US flag in protest

Pakistanis Islamists cry 'Death to America' burn US flag in protest

In Abbottabad, the town where bin Laden was found and killed by US commandos in a shock operation on May 2, police marshalled a rally of about 1000 men who gathered at the downtown bazaar to march after Friday prayers.
Setting fire to tires and blocking a main road, the protesters yelled: "Down, down USA!" and "Terrorist, terrorist, USA terrorist".

Also overnight, Pakistan arrested 40 people in Abbottabad  suspected of having links to bin Laden, FOX News Channel reported, citing a report by the Open Source Centre, a US government-sponsored monitoring site.
The arrests came after a search operation launched yesterday by Pakistani intelligence agencies and police in Abbottabad, the report said, adding that official sources called it the "second phase" of the operation that killed Bin Laden.
A regional leader in Pakistan's main religious party Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) mocked Pakistan's powerful army chief of staff, General Ashfaq Kayani.
"You did not fulfil your duty. When they attacked, you were sleeping. Don't be afraid of America, come out of your air-conditioned room," Mohammad Ibrahim Khan told the crowd, waving banners that condemned the raid.
Both the Pakistani and US governments have said Monday's operation was carried out with Islamabad in the dark.
Pakistan's weak civilian government is widely unpopular among the country's population of 170 million, and seen by them as a lackey to the United States.
Widespread anti-Americanism is fuelled by the 10-year war in neighbouring Afghanistan and a CIA drone war targeting al-Qaida and Taliban commanders who live in Pakistan's tribal belt in the northwest.
A US drone attack on Friday targeted a vehicle and a compound in North Waziristan, the region where US officials had said in the past they believed bin Laden was holed up, killing eight militants, including al-Qaida members.
"People become terrorists when they see their loved ones killed in drone attacks," Fazalur Rehman, a labourer, said in the capital Islamabad.
"Pakistanis simply hate Americans."
In the country's biggest city of Karachi, just 500 of the estimated 16 million residents staged a rally to praise bin Laden as "a soldier of Islam", chanting "Down with America" and "Down with US slaves".
"We salute him. We also salute the Taliban who are fighting in Afghanistan and hope the US will be defeated in Afghanistan," said the Karachi head of JI, Mohammad Hussain Mehanti.
In the southwest, hundreds of people gathered in the city of Quetta at the behest of the pro-Taliban Jamiat-Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) political party, where the crowd shouted "Long Live Osama", called for holy war and burnt a US flag.
Hafiz Fazal Bareach, a former federal senator and senior party leader, said the US killing of bin Laden would create thousands of others like him and vowed that "jihad (holy war) will continue against America and its allies."
JI had called for protests across the country to denounce the US operation, but gatherings were not as large as some people had expected.
Smaller-scale rallies took place in other Asian Muslim countries, where Fridays are traditional days of protest after the main weekly prayers.
In Indonesia's Central Java province, about 100 Muslims took an oath to declare themselves ready to die as martyrs to avenge bin Laden's killing.
About 70 Muslims in the Philippine capital Manila tried to march to the US embassy, following a rallying cry from cleric Sheikh Jamil Yahya condemning the US authorities as terrorists, but they were blocked by riot police.

Al Qaeda confirms bin Laden is dead, vows revenge

Al Qaeda has acknowledged that Osama bin Laden is dead, dispelling the doubts of some Muslims over whether the militant group's leader had really been killed by U.S. forces, and vowed to mount more attacks on the West. The announcement on Friday by the Islamist militant organization, which promised to publish a taped message from bin Laden soon, appeared intended to show its followers around the globe that the group had survived as a functioning network.
In a statement online, it said the blood of bin Laden, shot dead by a U.S. commando team in a raid on Monday on his hide-out in a Pakistani town, "is more precious to us and to every Muslim than to be wasted in vain.
"It will remain, with permission from Allah the Almighty, a curse that hunts the Americans and their collaborators and chases them inside and outside their country."
Al Qaeda urged Pakistanis to rise up against their government to "cleanse" the country of what it called the shame brought on it by bin Laden's shooting and of the "filth of the Americans who spread corruption in it."
The statement also warned Americans not to harm bin Laden's corpse and to hand it and those of others killed to their families, though U.S. officials say bin Laden's body has been buried at sea and no others were taken from the compound.
Some Muslims have been skeptical of bin Laden's death, especially as the United States has said it will not release what it called gruesome images of his corpse for fear of inciting more violence.
One survey conducted in Pakistan this week by the British-based YouGov polling organization found that 66 percent of over 1,000 respondents did not think the person killed by U.S. Navy SEALs was bin Laden.
The raid, of which the U.S. administration has declined to give details, has also raised questions about the legality of bin Laden's killing.
He was unarmed when he was shot dead, but President Barack Obama has continued to bask in public approval for the killing, and flew to a military base at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, to thank special forces involved in the raid.
"This has been an extraordinary week for our nation," Obama told a jubilant audience of troops. "The terrorist leader who struck our nation on September 11 will never threaten our nation again." But he warned "this continues to be a very tough fight."
U.S.-PAKISTAN TENSIONS
Anger and suspicion between Washington and Islamabad over the raid in Abbottabad, 30 miles from the Pakistani capital, showed no sign of abating.
The New York Times on Saturday quoted Pakistani officials as saying the Obama administration had demanded Pakistan disclose the identities of some of its top intelligence operatives as Washington seeks to find out whether they had contact with bin Laden or his agents before the raid on his compound.
The officials were providing details of what the Times called a tense discussion between Pakistani officials and a U.S. envoy in Pakistan on Monday.
Many in Washington suspect Pakistani authorities had been either grossly incompetent or playing a double game in the hunt for bin Laden and the two countries' supposed partnership against violent Islamists.
One of bin Laden's wives, Amal Ahmed Abdulfattah, told Pakistani interrogators the al Qaeda leader had been living for five years in the compound where he was killed, a revelation sure to deepen doubts about Pakistan's military and spy agency, the most organized establishments in a chaotic country.
Pakistani security forces took 15 or 16 people into custody from the Abbottabad compound after U.S. forces removed bin Laden's body, a Pakistani security official said. They included bin Laden's three wives and several children.
In Washington, a U.S. official said U.S. intelligence had established on-the-ground surveillance in Abbottabad before the raid. A phone call last year to a man known as the main courier to Osama bin Laden helped lead the CIA to bin Laden's compound, The Washington Post reported on Saturday.
U.S. officials also said among materials found at bin Laden's hide-out was evidence indicating al Qaeda at one point considered attacking the U.S. rail system on the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks later this year.
Officials said evidence analyzed so far indicated bin Laden was still involved in directing al Qaeda's activities, even though he had largely avoided the public spotlight for years.
The fact that bin Laden was found in a garrison town -- his compound was not far from a military academy -- has embarrassed Pakistan and the covert raid has angered its military.
The Pakistani army threatened to halt counterterrorism cooperation with the United States if it conducted any more unilateral raids.
But on Friday, a U.S. drone killed 17 suspected militants in northwest Pakistan, and pressure is building in the U.S. Congress to suspend or at least review U.S. aid to Pakistan.
VIDEO FOOTAGE
Pakistani security officials have alleged that U.S. troops, after landing by helicopter, shot the unarmed al Qaeda leader in cold blood rather than in a firefight, as U.S. officials first suggested.
Amid differing accounts of how much hostile fire the SEALs encountered in the compound, one Pakistani security official said on Friday that U.S. forces should release video footage he said they "must have" of the operation.
U.N. human rights investigators called on the United States to disclose the full facts "to allow an assessment in terms of international human rights law standards.
U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said the relationship with Pakistan was "complex" but pointed to Islamabad's effort against the Taliban and al Qaeda in its own tribal areas and the use of its territory as a U.S. supply route.
"At the same time, there's no question they hedge their bets," said Gates, fielding questions from service members at an Air Force base in North Carolina. "Their view is that we have abandoned them four times in the last 45 years. And they're not sure we're going to stay in the region."
"So we just have to keep working at it, on both sides," he added.
The United States sees Pakistan's influence over the Taliban as key to ending the war in neighboring Afghanistan, and Gates said on Friday the killing of bin Laden "could be a game-changer" in that conflict.

osama bin laden dead Latest Breaking News Daily

LAX, Ontario International and Van Nuys airports were on heightened alert as of Sunday night, said Gina Marie Lindsey, executive director of Los Angeles World Airports, which operates the airports.  Officials would not elaborate on what that means to travelers, but LAX has one of the nation’s biggest anti-terrorist operations, visible and invisible. Here's what you may see with the new alert:

* More checkpoints by airport police as travelers enter the central terminal area, as well as a more visible presence of officers overall. LAX is staffed by its own department, but the LAPD has a post there and coordinates additional officers as needed.

* Bomb-sniffing dogs will be making the rounds of passenger baggage at airport curbs and within the terminals themselves.

* Random gate screenings are likely to  occur more frequently, and more detection officers can be expected to be on duty.

* At times of heightened security, it’s common to see LAX police on foot patrol in military gear and carrying automatic weapons.

Osama bin Laden is dead The US military has his body

Osama bin Laden is dead and  The US military has his body September 11 mastermind . Obama to announce it in a few minutes.
Killed in a mansion with family members by us forces in islamabad military bases put on high alert.
Osama bin Laden is dead
Bin Laden's admirers commonly use several aliases and nicknames, including the Prince/Al-Amir, the Sheikh, Abu Abdallah, Sheikh Al-Mujahid, the Lion Sheik

Officials have long believed bin Laden, the most wanted man in the world, was hiding a mountainous region along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The al-Qaeda leader became both the face of global terrorism and a symbol of the futile efforts to seek it out and fight it.
While his death is a victory for the anti-terror crusade by the U.S. and its allies, it's unlikely his demise will end the now-fractured network of terror cells that reaches across the world.
Counter-terror experts have noted al-Qaeda has grown into a more fragmented movement, its violent ideas having been franchised over to local allies who can operate without a central, larger-than-life figurehead leader.
